You could be forgiven for not considering showers and bathtubs when thinking about plumbing services. But plumbers repair just as many tubs and showers as they do sinks and toilets. If there is water and a drain involved, a plumber knows how to fix it.
Beehive Plumbing provides both professional and commercial plumbing services throughout Salt Lake, Utah, and Davis counties. And yes, many of our jobs involve showers and tubs. Why would you need to call us for a shower or tub repair? There are plenty of possibilities.
1. Leaky Faucets and Showerheads
Leaky faucets and showerheads could very well be the most common tub and shower repairs we deal with. Granted, a leaky faucet or shower head isn’t the end of the world. It is not a major problem potentially leading to disaster. But leaks waste money by wasting water.
In so many cases, leaks are the result of worn-out washers. Repair is a simple matter of disassembling the fixture, locating the bad washer, replacing it, and putting everything back together. Replacing washers can be a challenge for consumers who know nothing about plumbing fixtures. But for experienced plumbers, it is old hat.
2. Clogged Drains
We are all familiar with clogged kitchen and bathroom sinks. But guess what? Shower and tub drains get clogged, too. All sorts of things can lead to clogs, including soap scum and hair. The thing about tubs and showers is that their drains are often more difficult to clear because they are under the floor. At least when you are working with a sink, you can get to the drain through the cabinetry.
At any rate, a clogged shower or tub drain does not deter an experienced plumber. Our plumbers rely on the latest techniques and tools to safely clean clogged drains with little risk of damage to the rest of your plumbing.
3. Leaky Pipes
One of the potentially more serious tub and shower repairs we see in Utah is a leaky pipe behind a wall or in the floor. Leaky pipes are serious business because they can do tremendous damage. It is best to get a leaky pipe taken care of right away. Waiting could lead to mold growth, aesthetic damage, and even structural damage.
An experienced plumber knows how to get to those pipes with as little disruption as possible. He also knows how to fix them quickly and safely. That’s good because the typical homeowner isn’t equipped to handle leaky pipes.
4. Additional Miscellaneous Repairs
The first three types of repairs mentioned here are the most common for Utah tubs and showers. But every now and again, we are called out to deal with other issues. Here are some of the miscellaneous repairs we’ve been asked to handle:
- Low Water Pressure – Low water pressure can be a tricky issue because so many things can cause it. A plumber needs to check fixtures, valves, and even supply lines to diagnose and fix the problem.
- Valves and Controls – Various valves and controls fail. When they do, it’s time to call in a plumber to replace them. Some of the things we’re talking about here include mixing valves, thermostatic controls, and diverters.
- Pipe Relocation – Remodeling jobs may call for pipe relocation. Where a DIY homeowner might be comfortable installing new flooring, cabinetry, and tiles, he would call Beehive Plumbing to handle pipe relocation.
Showers and tubs are common sources of plumbing repairs. They keep us busy, right along with sinks and drains. If the plumbing in your shower or tub is acting up, don’t hesitate to contact us for help.
